Good Morning, I also have been diagnoised with Hemochromatosis 2 years ago and it had a chance to do some damage to my muscle and joints that do not seem to get any better. I am 56 years old and went once and twice a week for a flabotomy for a year and now go every few weeks. I am concerned that mine is still not down to normal and my Dr. seems worried about anemia. I have read it is okey to have the anemia for short term if it lowers the ferritin. My ferritin was in excess of 1,ooo so I had to lower it asap. I now am at 236 and would like to know if anyone has it down to normal. I am on disability now and 6 years ago was diagnoised with diabetes so my iron overload had a chance to do its work before discovered. It really hurts after you have gone through physical therapy, aquatic therapy, Many specialist and a Dr. says well, I think you need to see a Phycologist because there is nothing wrong. Thank God when we take things in our own hands and keep looking for that one Dr. that finally gets to the bottom of our problem. It took 3 years and a lot of pain to get to this point. My parents had both died so special blood work was sent to Mayo clinic for genetic testing. They both had it and died with problems from iron overload but, never new it. All of my children have been tested and my sister. This will be an annual test for them now. Even if you don't have it, it is worth reading about because it is the cause of so many problems.
