Kimberly Wolf
Hi. Don't know where to start, there's so much to say. If I miss anything, or anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me. I'm a 23yr old female who was diagnosed with RSD when I was 11yrs old. The disease was caused by a sprain to my rt. wrist, and an injury to my brachial plexus nerve. RSD is called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. What was described in the first post, describes the disease at it's worst. I'm am not diagnosing any of you, but I can tell you that I went to many doctors for a long time who didn't know anything about it. It was only after I found one doctor in particular that I started to regain movement and get some strength back into my arm. The pain, unfortunately, is still not under control. (But we're working on that.) I've lived without use of my right arm for a very long time, and it isn't easy. It isn't easy to be in constant pain. But the hardest was always finding someone who could understand how I felt. No one in my family really could, which makes dealing with the disease (any disease)that much more difficult. I do not know where any of you live, but I live in NY. I'll post my doctor's name, and ask that you either give his office a call to find a specialist who is close to you or that you go and see him. He's treated so many patients it's unbelievable. Many have had better recovery than I myself have had. (One woman was stuck in a wheelchair, unable to do anything. That was ten years ago. Two weeks ago I saw her at my doctor's. She *walked* in.) I'm not talking miracles, i'm talking about medicine, and a guy that knows what he's doing and cares about his patients. His name: Dr. Thomas K. Szulc, M.D. Director of the Long Island Pain Treatment Center 720 Old Country Road Plainview, NY 11803 (516) 931-1133 I urge you all to ask questions. Ask your current physician about RSD. Believe me, I went through so many people who just didn't know what was wrong with me. I went to an orthopedic guy who just wanted to do surgery. (Which only would've comsmetic, as it turns out. It would've raised my rather droopy right shoulder.) Please contact me if have any questions, or you just want talk to someone who might be able to understand. I wish everyone here (and everyone else), a happy and healthy future. Sincerely, Kim Wolf
