Girl, I know exactly what you're talkinga about, I have the same problem. I have really long sideburns, and I'm self concious about pulling my hair back, and sometimes I have to pull it back for sports, and people notice. Try being in Middle school, and haveing abnormally long sideburns, and it doesn't go well. I went to the salon, and they waxed them, BUT I broke out REALLY BAD on the side of my face, I looked like I had a bad rash cause of the wax they used, I mean my skin got infected and I had a bunch of acme, it did not look or feel good. I tweeze some, but it doesn't really work. My mom goes to the electrolosis, and I tried it once, and it hurts, i couldn't stand it, and this is comming from a girl who does kickboxing. Try waxing, the hair doesn't come back as quick, it only cost me $15.00, and it doens't hurt that much, and it goes by quickly. Well good luck, and trust me I'm feeling with you.
