I had the collogen plugs (dissolve after a week or so) put in both eyes in Nov of 1996. Then I went ahead and had the silicone (permanent) plugs put in. It took a couple tries to get the right fit as they would come out at first. But after the initial trial and error I've had no problems until just recently. What has happened is the left eye plug has gone down into the canal and my doctor cannot get it back out. He says it is not really a problem as there is one type of plug that is actually put down into the canal on purpose. Mine are the kind that you see with a little "cap" inside on the inner lower lid. Anyway, they are still doing the job, keeping my tears from leaving the eye. They do not hurt, but as a contac wearer, I do feel them when I look hard to one side or the other.
