Nancy, I hope your daughter is still doing well in her recovery. What an amazing story. She sounds like a VERY fortunate young lady, I am sure you feel that even through everything, all the surgeries, etc., you are very lucky to have her. My mother almost died in 1995 from necrotizing fasciitis in her right breast, following a biopsy. She lost her entire breast and the surrounding area. We were surprised to say the least when my sister developed necrotizing cellulitis in her right thigh, following vascular surgery. I know how frustrating it is watching as they endure all the surgeries and you feel so helpless knowing that the only thing the Dr's can do is to keep removing more and more tissue. In my sister and mother's case the infection either burned out or their bodies were able to fight it. I am not sure. The Dr's have never been able to tell with any certainty what form of bacteria actually caused the infection. Apparently the antibiotics interfere with the culturing of bacteria. I hope your daughter continues to do well and let her know that she is not alone. Take care.
