I am not a physician, but have some knowledge of the disease and it's symptoms. Your father accusing your mom of stealing his keys a common symptom of paranoia. In terms of what to expect, it is important that everyone involved get support, as this is a progressive disease and there is no cure. Very often family members are in denial. Alz. Disease is the only disease that is harder on the caregivers than on the one who has it. I strongly suggest that you contact your local Alzheimer's Association or Alzheimer's Referal Center for more information and support. Also it is important that a physician rule out all other possible reasons for his behavior. Severe depression is very common in the elderly population and often goes undetected and untreated. It's symptoms can sometimes mimic those of Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.
