I have had IC for around year now. I . I have tryed DMSO instillations. The catheters don't hurt any more then the IC pain itself. Also the pain only lasts a few minutes. The injections did cause my bladder to spasam or contract which was extreamly painful. The Dr had to give me something to help my bladder to relax. The smell and bad taste in your mouth is the worst part of it. I did not have great results with this treatment. I now am taking Amitriptyline and Vistril at night. This treatment seems to work a little. I am getting some sleep, but I am so tired all the time. My Dr has now been talking about a test study that is taking place here in Seattle. It is instulations of BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) in the bladder. Has anyone heard about this? If you have please Email me and let me know. I sure hope that one day there will be a treatment that has great results. Until then all we can do is try.
