Tips for quitting chew tobacco - - - I recently quit chewing. I dipped for about 7 years. I started with Skoal, and ended up with Copenhagen. I noticed that my gums have receded a long way, and while I still check out okay at the dentist, I have decided to dump the habbit. I haven't had a chew for a couple of months now, and I quit using that fake herbal dip. There are a couple of kinds out there - - Mint Snuff, & Smokey Mountain are the ones I tried. Some grocery stores carry them, and they are also available online. You mix your regular chew in smaller and smaller amounts until you end up just chewing the fake stuff. Then after a while, you can get by on just chewing gum. Its hard, especially when you're partying or around a bunch of dippers. . . but it's totally worth it. I was surprised how good my mouth feels, and how easy it is to sleep without nightmares of cancer. Not to mention, food tastes alot better.
