My son had a bout of Croup every November for 6 years. It was very frightening in the beginning, as he was only an infant the first time that he suffered from it. There are four other members in our family and none of us have ever caught it. The medical personnel said that it was caused by a virus...every November for six years? He has not suffered from it in over 3 years now. You may already know this, but the only thing that seems to relieve the tight airway is bundling up and going out into the cold air--not steam/hot. Breathing the cold air for 10-15 minutes (or longer) helps tremendously! My son was prescribed a bronchial dilating medication as a toddler which we tried only once--it acted as a stimulant for him and he could not sleep for the entire night. Good luck to you! Merry Christmas!
