I read that the FDA is requiring the manufacturer to add a warning to the Lamictal label regarding the possibility of aseptic meningitis as a side effect.
Aseptic meningitis can cause headaches, malaise, nausea, stiff neck and fever.
Apparently it is easy to mistake the symptoms for something else, and aseptic meningitis is only diagnosed by a spinal tap. It seems likely that many people who had the symptoms treated themselves with acetaminophen, aspirin, or an NSAID and never suspected they had something other than some sort of mild flu.
