Like childbirth, the pain of recovering from a tonsillectomy is now a dim memory and after 1 1/2 years I have not had one sore throat. Considering I had strep 3 times in 4 months before the surgery and abscesses two of those times I'm very, very happy I had those tonsils taken out. The only unexpected side-effect is that my sense of taste was affected and still is. Many things that shouldn't taste sweet, do (ex. coffee, wine, marinara sauce). I'm getting used to it though and as the oh-so-caring ENT said, at least everything doesn't taste bitter.
