Tonsillectomy

CC

Message 1 of 1

I had a tonsillectomy 1 week ago. I am 24 and knew the pain would be bad. I have noticed that it is much worse for some and not bad for others. Mine is pretty bad. I didn't do well with the pain medicine which probably made things worse. The first pain meds (oxycodone) made me vomit after 2 days, the second (hydrocodone) made me very naseaus, and then just Tylonol made my stomach hurt very badly. And I was even trying to eat the whole time. So they prescribed a pain relieving nasal spray (stadal?) that makes me so dizzy that I can't even get up to go to the bathroom. They told me I could take 1 dose of Advil per day and I feel so good when I take it - almost normal! and no stomach pain. I can't stand to take that nose spray anymore so I am reduced to 1 extra-strength tylonol gel cap with lots of food. I feel lots better and stronger after one week but the pain is like nothing I've ever felt before. I think my scabs are starting to fall off and it's like having your throat cut and then drinking lemon juice. Oh, and no one told me that food wouldn't taste right. As if you didn't want to eat in the first place, I take one bite of food that smells delicious and it tastes like crap. Chipped ice has been my savior. Also, oddly enough, bread has been good to me - easy to swallow, doesn't taste bad and good for taking pain medicine with. Oh, and no one told me about the coughing and phlegm. I woke up the first few nights nearly choking on it, and even after one week I wake up coughing all the time. I hope it's all worth it in the end.
