My father was a Golden Gloves Boxer in his youth. He told me of a treatment for epitaxis by insert moistened gauze up under the nose between the teeth and upper lip pressing firmly against the upper reaches of the upper lip, packing it in tightly. If gauze was not readily available to use grocery wrapping, or other "heavy paper" such as a piece of a brown grocery bag, wetted and rolled, then forced into the space as described. The nose bleed will cease within a minute or two. Has anyone else heard of this? Please write me. I work in a an Emergency Room and the MD's had never heard of this treatment.
