My son had speech issues until he was 14. He was developmentally delayed in many areas; speech, reading, anything academic at all, even self-expression (being able to talk to us about anything!) He had an acute ear infection that lasted 2 months with strong antibiotics when he was 9 months old--the time that he was crawling. Since receiving something called Brain Integration Therapy, that has all changed. He began to speak clearly, went from a Kindergarten reading level to 7th grade in 2 months, able to spell, communicate with us.....the list goes on. Basically what I learned through all this was that while crawling a baby "hooks" up all those areas in their brain. If something, like an ear infection, keeps this developmental process from happening, difficulites can be seen down the road. This was certainly the case with our son. Did your son by chance have ear infections, or other health issues? Did he only crawl a little or not at all? This might be a piece of the puzzle you are looking for.
