No, genital warts are not caused by poor hygiene. They are sexually transmitted and could have been gotten a long time ago and just been lying dormant in either your system or your boyfriend's before either of you were together. There is treatment in the form of having them cauterized ("burned") off. This is not painful and you MUST get treatment right away. There is probably something new out there now besides the cauterization treatment, I don't know but do see your Dr. Be sure your boyfriend checks himself regularly for awhile to be sure he doesn't have them,so you don't get reinfected. Also, I would INSIST on your BF being more clean "down there." All it takes is a shower. Buy him some nice, manly soap and take a shower with him! Good luck and best to you and your boyfriend.
