Fibromyalgia

Read a book called "The Thyroid Solution" where the author, an Endocrinologist, mentioned that many patients with Fibromyalgia with terrible fatigue have been found to do extremely well with T-3 supplements. When I was tested for the T3 levels, indeed I was low. Within 2 days of taking Cytomel (T3) 5mg in AM, 5 mg about 2 or 3 PM and 2.5mg in the evening, my fatigue and depression and "brain fog" simply disappeared. It was that dramatic. When doctors test you for thyroid problems, they traditionally only test the TSH and perhaps T4 levels. They never test for T3. Even if the T3 level looks normal, some doctors are willing to try a trial run of T3 to see if you improve. Since I am now able to be more physically active, I have less pain in general. Still need Amitryptylene and Sonata for sleep, but perhaps that will improve as well in time. I have promised myself to set up a gym in my family room in the next month and be faithful about getting more physically fit. I know that this will help with the discomfort and the sleep problems. I took a copy of the book with the pages marked to my Internist and asked him to read it. It helped that it was written by an Endrocrinologist-gave it credibility. All the symptoms of Fibromyalgia are those of a poorly functioning Thyroid. Read the book. You have to be pro-active. Doctors simply don't have the time in the 30 minutes the HMO gives them to figure out these complex disorders. Carol
