I am not nearly an expert in severe head injury, but as a physical therapist I have worked in a brain injury rehab center for a short time. I have encountered the type of problem you are speaking about. It is very hard to deal with and my heart goes out to you. I hope that some doctor or therapist has explained all the stages that head injury patients go through. Agitation is certainly one of them and probably hardest to cope with. In the rehab center where I worked it required a whole team approach and consisitency is one key. There is no magic cure. I think it is best handled through cognitive and behavioral therapy. I don't think that there are any time tables for how long a person remains in one stage. You definetly need the help and support of professionals who work with head injury patients on a regular basis. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you want to talk or if I can give you any additional info.
