Several years ago, I was diagnosed with essential age-related hypertension (I was 60 at the time). Accupril was prescribed, and it worked: the systolic and diastolic numbers are back within normal limits. However, as a recreational runner I have noticed that when I run for 1 1/2 hours or longer I become extremely fatigued and light headed. Recovery takes longer. My blood pressure drops precipitously (into the 80/50 range). I have begun to suspect a connection. Since I apparently do need medication for the high blood pressure, I wonder if there is some drug other than Accupril than has a "kinder and gentler" effect on runners.
