I just learned over the weekend that my cousin had a hysterectomy and the doctor nipped into her bowel and she had serious complications. (He did not know it got nipped). They had to call in a specialist to find out what happened and they did exploratory surgery and found this. Everything going through the bowel was leaking into her abdomen and causing a serious bacterial infection. She was in the hospital a total of 26 days. I'm due to have a hysterectomy in 3 weeks and I have the same gynocologist. I'm getting very nervous about this. I've been going to him for over 25 years. If it wasn't for him, I would not have had my daughter 21 years ago. I'm scared to death now. He's always been a very good doctor to me. How rare is this to have occur? Could it happen to me too?
