I don't think there is a "normal" when it comes to your menstrual cycle and I myself had an irregular cycle for some time and also,at one point, only actually ovulated from one ovary, so I only had a period bi-monthly or had one very light period one month and a "normal" one the following month. My cycle did regulate itself in my early twenties and I have not had any repercussions or , in fact, any problems in that department at all and I am now 40! Hope this helps put your mind at rest.
