Carol
Hi, I had carpel tunnel in both hands from working the scanners at the grocery store. I could not sleep at night because of the constant numbness and the pain all the way up my arm was a nightmare. The doctor gave me wrist splints which I wore for about 6 months then went to only waring them at night. I had the nerve tests done which showed signifficant nerve damage. They said surgery was the only answer but after taking my un official poll, it seemed that it didn't really help most of the people who had it. Many went back for a 2nd. SOme of those who had it developed artiritis which was worst than the CT. I quit my job, took Cod liver oil capsuels- which helped a lot, and tried to recognize the things I did that reallly made it flare up bad. I do not carry a purse or any bag that hangs down from my hands, I use a back pak now, I do not cut the grass or shampoo the rugs anymore because I noticed things like that were I gtip and also there is a vibration, used to put me out of comission for over a week. It has been 13 years, and it is much better now. I actually have gotten most of the feeling back in my fingertips, and I do not randomly drop things any more. Every once in a while, I'll do something new that makes it act up a little the next day. I always try to remember what I did, and try to not do that again. When I was in Europe, I got it and couldn't figure out what I did, until I went back a second time. Riding on the trams required me to hold on to the pole or overhead rack tightly while travelling. That is what did it. Helping pull someome up from a chair or the floor can cause it to flare up. If you try to make these little changes, it will eventually get better over time. Good luck.
