Rotator Cuff Repair & Recovery

Denise

Message 1 of 1

After suffering for a few years with shoulder pain & very painful pain the last year I finally had surgery. I was told I had inflammation in my shoulder which was causing the pain. From all that I had read, my symptoms told me it was a torn rotator cuff. But the doctor didn't think so. But once he got inside he saw I was indeed right. Not only was my cuff torn, but torn in 3 places. So instead of a 45 minute surgery it took 3 hours, plus instead of a 6-8 week recovery I was told it would now be 6-9 MONTHS!!! All this was told to me minutes after coming out of the anesthesisia. Since the doctor was only suppose to be cleaning out inflammation he didn't cut me open, but did it arthoscopicly, which was good, I guess. At least no big ugly scar. But now I'm wondering if all the tears are fixed. It's been 4 months now & I'm in just as much pain, if not more, than before the surgery. I've been going to therapy for the last 2 months & both the therapist & doctor keep telling me it takes time. They keep telling me it's my arthritis that's giving me the pain. Yeah...but shouldn't I be feeling better by now. I think I know the difference in arthritis pain or stiffness pain than cuff tear pain. I really think it's still tears there. But how do you get them to listen when they think they are right & I'm just a complaining patient. Anyone else have these problems after cuff repairs? How long before you felt better? What test should I ask for to make sure the cuff is repaired?
