the answer to your question is simple. try both and see which one feels the best. ice reduces inflammation and heat brings fresh blood to the area to help with healing. however, heat especially in the first few days can increase inflammation. give them both a good try (one at a time. heat for a few days then ice for a few days) then you should have your answer.
