I had a double mastectomy (1981). Silicone implants removed in 1998 after rupturing and replaced with new silicone implants (FDA moratorium)and have to have a special check up every 5 years as a result. Since March of 2000 I have experienced what one doctor has termed cellulitis. It is on one breast at a time and then the next breast the next time. Currently I am experiencing the symptoms again for the third time in one year. Pain up into my armpit, the whole breast is tender, bright red and hot to the touch. I'm on Cipro for the third time, this time for 6 weeks. I went to a different doctor, she is concerned about "seeding" (where the infection is never completely killed). Has anyone had any experience with this? I go back and see her in April, she said if the infection isn't remedied then removal of the implants is recommended. Considering how terrible I feel healthwise it's probably a good idea. I will have some kind of implants though, I'm 46 and not ready to wear a prosthethis bra.
