vericose vein segery

Your questions are: I had my vericose veins removed. They were primarily from the knee down to the ankle. I only needed it done in one leg. Sometimes they remove the Saphenous vein (deep vein in the upper thigh) and sometimes not. I am considering having vericose vein surgery and was wondering what the success rate is? ***The success rate, in my opinion, is wonderful. It may only last for 10-15 years though. I had them stripped after I was finished having my 2 daughters; then 11 years later. The second surgery, my saphenous vein was removed. They don't always like to remove the saphenous vein because that is the vein (one of them) that is used for by-pass surgery. What is the recovery time? ***In California it is primarily done as an outpatient procedure. The pain afterwards is very bad. Walking, at first, is very difficult and slow. Stay in bed as much as possible for several days; legs elevated and wrapped. I don't remember exactly how long my recovery time was, but the "ache and pain and heaviness" in my legs was completely gone. It was amazing. Are there any side effects? ***I don't know of any side effects.--small scars on the leg.-- Barbara
