I was diagnosed with RSD about 6 mos. ago and am going through the same things the rest of you are. Several months ago, my doctor sent me an article from the Nov. 12, 2001 issue of "Archives of Internal Medicine" (www.archinternmed.com) that told of a woman with severe RSD who developed multiple myeloma and was given thalidomide to treat it. After one month of that treatment, she had an unexpected improvement and near resolution of her RSD. A few months later, she had completely gotten rid of the RSD. This woman was treated by doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In the article, it says "Given the lack of good treatment options for RSD, we recommend that appropriate clinical trials with thalidomide be considered." in this disease." The doctors names are: S. Vincent Rajkumar, Rafael Fonseca, and Thomas E. Witzig if any of you care to contact them at the Mayo Clinic. I think if enough of us wrote letters, we might be able to get some drug trials going on thalidomide around the country.
