Try to locate a physician who specializes in Pain Management. Often they are anesthesiologists who specialize further. I worked with one of these specialists for 3 years. There are many alternatives, from epidural injections, to nerve blocks, to morphine pump implants that place a specific amount of morphine at the spinal cord at the site of the pain. This is managed without the typical side effects of oral or IV morphine. I am sure most of the larger cities would have one, and even some smaller ones (our local population is less than 50,000). Ask your physician for a referral. It is often well worth it! Good luck!
