I recently had a breast augmentation in July of 2001, immediatly upon waking from surgery , i had severe shoulder and arm pain. By the following morining, my little and ring fingers were completely numb. SInce then , i have continued to have pain in my arm , primarily in my elbow down to my two fingers. I am a nurse and work with a pain specialist , which did an ulnar nerve block , which helped for a short period of time. Since then i have seen a Neurologist, which thought it was ulnar nerve damage due from positioning. The pain began to travel up the back of my arm and into my shoulder. I then had an EMG, which increased my pain 5x and causing the pain to travel into my neck., incidently the EMG came back negative.I have now been sent to a Orthopedic surgeon ,who has ordered an MRI, stating that he felt is is comming from my neck, indicating to me that during surgery , my neck may have been hyperextendid or positioned incorrectly durring surgery. In the meantime, I have tissue and muscle wasting in my elbow region. The MRI came back as narrowing and spondylosis at c6-7.What I don't understand is , I have never in my life have had pain like this before in my neck , my shoulder , or my arm, until immediatly following this surgery. One Dr says it is my neck another Dr, tells me it is sympathetic pain due to the neg EMG and muscle waste. How could this have all happened. The DR. that did the surgery tells me it was probably a pre-existing neck problem and it was aggrivated during the surgery , but he told me this before any tests were ever done. I have never had a neck problem ever . DID something happen during surgery. Please help give me some answers.
