My brother recently let his diabetes get out of control by not monitoring his diet. The result was ketoacidosis. He has been in the hospital for four weeks. His dr. said in 20 years my brother is the second patient to ever pull through this kind of crisis. The drs say now that his pancreas is functioning at 50%, and the other half is dead. Could someone tell me what the prognosis is, or what options are available for this. All of his other organs are working again, not quite at 100%, but they're getting there. Our concern is the pancreas. Please advise.
