I've had acid reflux for about 8 years and it became progressively over time. I took all kinds of antacids, etc., elevated my bed about 8 inches, had to watch what I ate, but had to eat more often. Always waited about 4 hours to go to bed after dinner meal. Took PRILOSEC for about 4 years and still had trouble, would have to get up at night and vomit intermittently for about 6 hours. As you can see, I had a terrible time. I talked to my dr. about surgery and he said it was not always successful and had lots of drawbacks. He said he wanted me to try a new medication that had just come on the market. I had seen it advertised on TV and was just about to ask him about it. The drug is called NEXIUM and I've been taking it for about 3 months and it has helped me tremendously. I don't have to sit up to sleep (I had forgotten to mention that part). I sleep lying down every night, my bed is still elevated though. In addition, I take another prescription called LIBRAX which is for nervuous stomach. The two drugs, plus sleeping elevated, still waiting a good while before I go to bed, and trying not to eat foods that are real spicey has really done wonders for me. Also, sleeping on your left side is better for this condition. I surely hope this information can be of some help.
