I have a 14 yo DS w/Asperger's. We've found that transitions are a lot easier with a lot of preparation. We tell him in advance what is coming, what to expect, etc. He's always had a written copy of his schedule as a reference and changes are also in writing. Since he is very visual, as most Aspie's are (I think), he needs and responds to visual cues much better than a lot of verbalizations....those are easily tuned out. If I do use verbals, I make him repeat back to me what he heard. These kids have great ability to take in info but they need a lot of processing time. In other words, just because they hear you doesn't mean they've processed the meaning of your words. They do seem to process visuals the best. Hope this helps.
