I had this same thing. It isn't caused by bacteria or viruses. For me, it was pseudomonas carinii (sp?)-- protozoa. This organism encysts itself and it is these cysts in your lungs that are causing the dry hacking cough. (The cough is an attempt to dislodge and expel these cysts from your lungs.) Allopathic medicine(from the M.D.'s) does not have any decent meds to treat this. However, herbal remedies are available. The one I have used is the ParaKey system by UniKey Health (http:\\www.unikeyhealth.com). A lot of people in Columbus, Ohio, have had this in both the spring and the early autumn. This is the same organism that can cause pneumonia from which elderly people and people with weak immune. Most M.D.'s don't take a parasitology course and so your average M.D. is not going to know to look for this. I would recommend going to see a physician in a university medical center.
