my son had thoroscopic anterior fusion, T-5 to T12 with rib resection and rib graft in Nov."97. A Harrington rod was installed which has since broken in two places. My question is what is the rod made of,(I was under the impression that it was stainless steel) if it is stainless steel how on earth does it break in two places. If anyone else has experience with stainless steel, any size rod is almost impossible to break(it will bend every which way but never break). My son's operation was supposed to last 8 hours , he came out of the operating room 14 hours later. He is scared to death of going back for any further ops. and absolutely refuses to even go see a doctor.
