I had my retinas detach and, fortunately, the scheral buckle surgery helped and I regained most of my sight. Floaters can either be from when you were developing in your mother's womb or, if there is a sudden increase in them, this can be a sign of retinal detachment. If I were you, since you can lose your sight rather quickly if it is detaching, you should make an appointment with either your optometrist or opthalmolgist and ask for a dilated eye exam to check for retinal tears/detachment. (If they don't dilate, they can't see to the periphery where most tears start.) A good book that discusses this and what you might do to help yourself is by Dr. Abel "The Eye Care Revolution". (Available at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.) In my case, prolonged stress caused vitamin deficiencies (the key ones for eye health were zinc, vitamin C, and beta carotene(vitamin A)/vitamin E) which led to the weakening of the collagen of my eyes. When you add eyestrain to this, the weak retina can detach due to the mechanical strain from eye movement. I hope the information helps.
