About 10 months ago, I decided to join my college's swimming team although I had never swam competitively (I had always played soccer). After a month of intensive practice, I developed a tendonidis in my lower-deltoid and rotator cuff muscles known as "swimmer's shoulder." However, I had to keep swimming with the injury if I wanted to stay on the team, big mistake. I even saw a doctor who told me there is no abnormal disfunction of the shoulder but rather just overuse that has traumatized the tendons. After our season ended about 3 monthes ago, I started resting the tendons and muscles by immobilizing them and applying heat every day. I've laid off swimming and weight lifting since then. My lower deltoid tendon seems to have healed almost completely but my anterior rotator cuff tissue which I use to raise my arm forward has not yet healed although most of the inflammation is gone around the area. I would appreciate it if you could advice me on whether I should completely immobilize these muscles or adversely try to stretch and excercise them. Is there anything other than heat that could facilitate the healing process? Do I have to sleep on a specific side of my body at nights for it to heal? What do you suggest about a strengthening rehab program after the muscles heal? how long do i have to keep from swimming during such rehab? I truely thank you for your help. Amir
