I believe this is what I have. Had not run or snowboarded for about one month, so no real physical activity, but awakened one morning with stiff right knee... within few days leg swelled up and I had 60cc drained off knee (after 3 weeks of not being able to bend leg or walk normally). Drained off FRONT of knee as nothing showed behind knee on x-ray and fluid was clear of "suspicious" findings when tested (gout, arth.). Bump behind knee was not noticable to touch until fluid drained... then noticeable about size of golfball... subsequently went down. Now has returned, half that size but "harder" but without swelling as before. Not all THAT painful (I have a high tolerance, though) and no numbness. Did others with draining have the cyst drained DIRECTLY from behind? Again, no real "pain" but with no exercise for 3 months, I am considering just trying to run, lift or cycle"through it". Postings here suggest that might NOT be good idea... no known knee injury that might have caused this and no CURRENT sign of arthritis, etc. (I'm 48) CAN it be exercised through if not excessively swollen? Seems surgery is not a good option either??? I'm going on the gluco route, I think, and anti-inflams... any other ideas for returning to aerobic action (I circuit train with weights, but need the calorie burn).
