Few people report success getting off prednisone or below 5mg. with PMR. Anyone had sucess with this? Other meds that may help? My mother did well for a long time between 7-5 mg. Then her rheummy recommended getting off quickly. She felt great then had this episode of hypoglycemia likely due to her body not yet producing enough corticosteroids on its own yet. She had a brief period free of pain, was beginning to feel less fatigue, and was able to begin strengthening. But slowly the pain is coming back to hips and shoulders, numbness to hands, and she is quite stiff and fatigued. Wondering if tapering from 5 mg. slower would have been better or what about staying on 2mg. of prednisone? Her rheummy says this is not PMR as sed rate is below 50 but symptoms are the same and sed rate is climbing from 17-31. Any thoughts?
