It is unfortunate that your husband suffers from diabetic pains and neuropathy. More often than not the various pains that are felt by patients with diabetes are related to the decreased blood flow to the nerves and other tissue. The decreased blood flow often occurs after years of poorly controlled blood sugars. The doctors are right that your husband must lose weight and eat the right kinds of foods. There are plenty of foods he can eat with his medications that will not cause him to gain weight. He also must exercise - diet without exercise can really mess him up. Most people do not realize that the circulatory and neurologic problems that we see with diabetes are not inevitable. They do not have to happen if we take seriously the need to control the blood sugar and live an otherwise healthy life style. There are many things he can do to help himself. They are not easy, but they are effective. May God bless your efforts.
