I'm 64 four years old and had my first attack of gout when I was 25. For the last 25 or 30 years, I was free from attacks of the gout. Then on 13JUN01, one hit me with the force of a nuke. I don't drink and have tried to eat the good foods. However, I have read, where in a few cases, an operation and an infection can cause one to occur. On 14JUN00, I had an tendon operation. When the cast was removed, the incision was infected. I had the second operation on 13OCT00, for the infection. I then had the third operation on 21MAR01 for an infection. I spent 11 months on crutches. Then, six weeks later, the gout almost blew my big toe to bits. I have been on rifampin and tequin since 23APR01. Question, is there a chance that the operation, infection and or the medicine may have caused my gout attack? Or, was it just my turn to have another gout attack. I did consume an awful lot of protien when I was trying to get my wound to heal. I'm taking my gout medicine and have eliminated red meat from my diet. Also, doing the cherry and berry bit, plus drinkg a lot of water. Around 100 ounces a day. Help me if you can. Dwight
