Potential Tourette Syndrome in youth, female

We are just now learning that my daughter likely has TS, according to her pediatrician. She still needs an evaluation by a neurologist. As usual with Kaiser, she may not get this appointment for 2 months. We are wondering if anyone can shed any light on this, based on their own experiences. Our daughter is 12 y.o., a very good student. She first demonstrated a nervous tic in first grade. We didn't give it much thought. She has had a dozen or more since then. In the last 6 months or so, the number of tics at a time has increased, and the frequencey as well. They are still quite subtle, but becoming less so. Now she also makes little noises. Again, it's subtle enough that friends and family usually say they never noticed much of anything. But then, she doesn't really do it much when she's occupied. Watching TV in the comfort of her own home seems to bring it out most. She's aware, and admitted to "trying real hard not to do it" in front of, say her grandparents, or anyone who doesn't see her often. She only recently admitted that a friend or two at school noticed it. Wondering if this parallels anyone else's experience.
