Bells Pasley struck me ton 23/7/00 and I was getting married on 29/7/00. I devolped pain in my right ear 2 days before and a severe headace the day before. That Sunday I woke up and notived that the right side of my face was numb. I was taken to emergency and told that I had bells pasley(which I had never heard of before that day) and prescribed a mega dose of predizone and acyloivir. I did go through with the wedding however could not smile and my face was in so much pain I could barely even talk. After the honeymoon I went to see a neurologist which did a test to measure the activity in the nerves. I was told that the nerve was severley damamged and recovery may take 6 months -1 year if I recover at all. Well after 2 1/2 months I began to see some movement and shortly aftet hat I could smile again, and then close my eye all the way shut. Today after almost 11 months I am about 95 percent recovered( my upper lip dosen't really curl) I do have some residual effects such as when I chew my eye moves a bit and when I smile hard my right eye tends to look smaller than the other. These are very small issues and I thank God every day for what he has done for me. To anyone out there suffering from Bells Palsey, the key to recovery is facial excerises, and lots and lots of prayer and patience!
