I had that type of surgery twice; first time as a freshman in 1984; second time in 1996. I had a cross bite and underbite; wasn't done for sleep apnea. The results were pretty awesome. In 1984 they held everything together with wire. It subsequently 'collapsed' and my midline started shifting and I had a lot of joint pain. My last operation is held together with titanium screws and a plate and I like the results of it better. Still have joint pain, but the bite is more stable. I put all of my food on the blender (steaks too), added cup of soup or gravy and stayed healthy during my recooperation. Supplements like Ensure and Meritene are also helpful. Let me know if you'd like to chat. Good luck!
