polymyalgia and temporal arteritis diagnosis

I'm currently on prednisone 20mgqod with 17.5 in between...was on 20/day from 4/20 until one week ago. The problem is that I have not been clearly diagnosed for either and feel I have enough symptoms of TA to concern me about the damage to the arteries it can cause including blindness.....no biopsy has been done and it was felt my temporal arteries weren't inflamed or tender enough to arouse suspicion....I do have daily temporal pressure even on the prednisone plus intermittant TMJ symptoms...I had several episodes of extreme scalp pain prior to being placed on prednisone...my sed rate was 56 and I had slightly elevated AST and ALT. I have two questions....one is that on the prednisone, my sed rate came down to 20 about three weeks after the prednisone was started....now at five to six weeks, would asking for a biopsy be of any worth and if so, would you ask for one if you were in my shoes. The other question is that I have noticed for three to four weeks that my upper cheeks are pink, just like I had blusher on....no irritation, itchiness....just pink....is this related to either disease, or prednisone.....I'd read that lupus pts have a butterfly rash on their cheeks and nose, and it scared me, since my primary MD is not sure of a clear diagnosis for even PMR yet.
