I found out that I was pregnant in Sept of 96 and was estatic! I took excellent care of myself and even quit smoking while I was pregnant to ensure that my child had an excellent start in life. In my last tri-mester I was put on bed rest because I started losing water. For the last month I was going to the doctor twice a week and then finally, on April 17,1997, I went into labor! I went through 24 hrs of labor and then had an emergency C-section because my daughters heart rate started dropping. Minutes after reaching the operating room, my daughter was taken from me by c section. Immediately following them taking her from my body, one of the nurses yell from across the room, "There's something wrong with the hand". Anyone who has had a c section knows that you are overflowing with all kinds of emotions at that point anyway. Fear, suspense, excitement and love for this child that you are about to see brought into this world. Then to have someone scream from across the room is just horrifying. But, I have digressed too much. The point to this is that my daughter was born with what they finally told us (My daughters father and I) to be Amniotic Band Syndrome. My daughters left hand, middle, ring and pinky fingers are fused and under-developed. She also has small missing parts on the tips of her two big toes, one is missing the entire nail with the exception of a hairline portion of a nail. My question is this...I have not been given very good options and my limited budget and medical insurance has also put limitations on her options. I want to find out if anyone can give me some sort of surgical options to my daughters conditions. I'm not asking for someone to do this for free but I need to find someone who will let me know that with the proper money, my daughter will have a chance at a normal life. Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Angela.
