Our father was just diagnosed with pc about three weeks ago. The status of his disease is approximately stage 4, with mets to liver, lymph nodes, and peritoneum. He is on the standard pain regimen with Oxycontin, OxyIR, Neurontin and Celebrex. He has just had his first infusion of Gemzar. Surgery is out of the question, radiation is not recomended. He is 57 years old and has had symtoms for 5 months. He is eating, about 1500cals per day. He is very weak and his abdominal area is distended due to the 5cm tumor mass and possibly some fluid retention. We are trying to be hopeful and have read about the miracles on this web site. We need to have a realistic explanation from someone who has been through this. Our family could use a support group and guidance in a positive direction. His spirits are down and we need suggestions to help him. What kind of questions should we be asking our doctor. Are there any alternative medications that have had any real-life results. Are there any symptoms or indicators that will let us know that things are getting worse. All or Anything, please respond.
