First let me express that I realize that losing weight would be beneficial but I think it's only fair to state that I have battled with my weight all my life. Before I got hurt on the job I have never had any back pain. I did what was considered an extremely heavy job, which I can't do now. I have had weeks on end of physical therapy to no avail. I have had 2 steroid injections that didn't help. A recent MRI for L4-5 disc protrusion compressing the L4 nerve root shows no changes and yet I have been told that I can't have surgery on my back because of my weight. Upon my initiation I have been going to the swimming pool for 3/week. I also might add that I just had a C4-5 fusion in March which was also part of the work related injury from April 2000. Now that I have explained the background information I would like to hear from heavy people that have had the surgery or what they did to loose weight when the pain is too great to exercise. I have thought of the bariatric surgery but I have no other insurance as my place of employment closed the doors. Thanks in advance for any responses.
