Hi: I'm a kinesiology student at csu sacramento. I suggest stretching your muscles (especially in the legs) at least twice a day (morning/night). Hot baths may relax the muscles and aid in the stretching process. Pay particular attention to the hamstrings, since the spasticity level in that area may be very great. Considering your age, ask for assistance. If you can't find help, do the following: Lay on the floor (make sure the surface area is pretty hard, since stabilization of your back during this exercise is extremely important; a mat may be used, but make sure your back is straight, and consider safety--in other words, if you lay on a Futon, don't fall off:)) Grab a rope or towel, etc., swing the rope around the bottom of your foot (while laying on your back). While keeping the back straight, pull your thigh and knee to your chest and then proceed to bring your leg and foot as far over your head as possible. Do it slowly and stop when the tension in the hamstring becomes slightly uncomfortable (not extremely painful!). Hold for 15 seconds and switch legs. Also, strtch your quadriceps and hip/trunk section. Swimming is a wonderful exercise also, in that it provides passive resistance to the muscles and strengthens them at the same time. (strenghtening muscles at your age is very important, since it decreases the possibility of a bone fracture in case of a fall). I need to go, unfortunately, but if you have any other specific questions, email me, and I will try to give you the best suggestions I can. Good Luck!! Andy
