Whenever I travel on a plane to a hot country my calves and ankles swell. Then in the heat they become dark red - no itchiness. I have checked several pharmacists in the US when my legs have this problem and they usually suggest an antihistamine or cortisone cream. I have used these but they don't really do anything. I bathe my legs in cold water also. I used to think it was the sun so wore trousers or long skirts but it made no difference. I have now found that when I am in bed at home, even in the winter, if my legs feel hot I wake up with the redness. It is not a rash - more like blood seeping out of veins under the skin. I have been told I have lymphodoema but nobody seems able to suggest treatment. Any advice would be welcomed. Thank You.
