I too have RLS. Even as a teenager I remember having the problem, but never to the extent of the last 2 years. About 6 months ago, I decided to ask the Dr about it and he said he wasn't familiar with it, so I took all the info to him that I had retrived off the computer. He looked it over and perscribed quinine sulfate 325 mg at bedtime. All this did was leave a bad taste in my mouth. Then he told me to take iron pills 3 times a day, and you know what they do to ya.. I didn't get any relief. That's when I started my own research as to what was causing this RLS to be almost constant and thru out my whole body now. Started my own little book on what I ate, drank, spices I used, any medication I was taking. I stopped using salt, spices, coffee etc. Didn't take any cold medicine, cough syrup or anything that the info I had acquired over the months referred to as possible causes of RLS. Nothing helped. Then it dawned on me, that 2 years ago, the dr had put me on "Effexor" which is an antidepressant for menopausal women to curb the mood swings and general depression. I found out that it has dopamine in it which when I looked into that, found that it sets off RLS, and over the continued use will make it worse and worse. I discontined taking the medication 4 days ago and haven't had ANY RLS since. Sleeping is just wonderful, sitting is great. Going thru a little withdrawl of the Effexor but nothing compared to the RLS. Do yourself a favor and look into what you are putting in your body. Look up all the ingredients one by one if you have to. It takes time to look everything up, but I feel that I've gotten to the root of my problem at least for now. I will keep at it for as long as it gives me relief. This may not be the whole cure, but I can't depend on my dr to take the time. If it is the medication and I am right, I will make sure the Dr knows this so he dosen't make other people as miserable as I have been over the past 2 years. Sorry to ramble on, but I feel like Ive won the lottery with this thing! I sincerely hope you can do the same. As I said, do your research! You know your body best. Good Luck.
