I am a 27 year old female and had a spinal fusion at age 16. The surgery was a sucess until 2 weeks later while I was getting out of bed the 2 main lower hooks slipped off the spine. They had to go back in and they bent the rods and wired them back to my spine. What I was wondering if someday I can have my rods removed and have an up to date surgery? If not, do other patiants who have had this surgery, as they get older have many problems or are they in pain as they get older? I have had 2 children and not a problem with pregnacy. Two years ago I had severe back pain where it felt icy-hot in areas of my back and nummness in my leg. I had tests done and it was a pinched nerve and motrin and therapy took care of this problem. Is this a common problem with cases of spinal fusion patients?
